How the AI Gender Predictor Works
Predicting gender from an ultrasound — sometimes searched as “USG gender determination” (USG is simply shorthand for ultrasonography) or “sonogram gender prediction” — comes down to one question: does this particular image show a sex-determining feature, or not? That’s exactly how our model reads your photo. It looks for the things a sonographer would look for: the angle of the genital tubercle (the “nub”) on an early profile view, the classic “three lines” or “turtle sign” on an anatomy-scan view, and the overall plane and quality of the image.
What it deliberately does not do: guess from heart rate, skull shape, placenta side or any other folklore — and it never comments on health or development. If the visible evidence isn’t there, you get an honest “unclear” plus tips on which frame from your scan session would work better. Your photo is processed in memory and never stored.
When Can You See Gender on an Ultrasound?
The single biggest factor in ultrasound pregnancy gender prediction isn’t the machine or the AI — it’s the week of pregnancy. Gender on a 10-week ultrasound
At 10 weeks the genital tubercle — the tissue that becomes either a penis or a clitoris — is the same size and shape in every baby. Any 10-week ultrasound gender call, human or AI, is a coin flip. If you can’t wait, a NIPT blood test can already tell at this stage.
Gender on an 11-week ultrasound
By 11 weeks the nub is starting to angle up in boys and stay level in girls, but the difference is tiny and the baby’s position dominates. Studies put 11-week nub readings well below the accuracy most parents would act on.
Gender on a 12-week ultrasound
This is the earliest week where an ultrasound guess means something. On a clean mid-sagittal profile, trained sonographers reading the nub angle get roughly 87–92% accuracy at 12 weeks. The catch: the scan has to actually show the nub — many 12-week photos don’t.
Gender on a 13-week ultrasound
At 13 weeks nub theory hits its stride — published series report accuracy in the low-to-mid 90s. A baby girl ultrasound at this stage shows a level nub with two parallel lines starting to form; a boy’s nub points upward at more than 30 degrees.
Gender on a 14-week ultrasound
From 14 weeks the genitals themselves start to be distinguishable, not just the nub angle. Accuracy climbs — but only when the baby cooperates. Legs crossed or a low-resolution printout still means an honest "unclear".
Gender on a 15-week ultrasound
By 15 weeks most sonographers can call gender on a decent between-the-legs view, and studies show accuracy approaching the anatomy-scan level. The classic "three lines" (labia) mean a girl; the turtle sign means a boy.
How Accurate Is It to Determine Gender by Ultrasound?
Honest numbers, because no method is 100%: the 18–22 week anatomy scan — the gold standard of gender on ultrasound — is about 99% accurate when the sonographer gets a clear view. Nub-angle reading at 12 weeks lands around 87–92% even for trained specialists, and climbs through the low 90s by week 13–14. DNA tests (NIPT from ~10 weeks) beat them all at 99%+.

AI vs Nub Theory, Ramzi and Skull Theory
Parents have been squinting at scans long before AI. Nub theory — reading the genital tubercle angle at 11–14 weeks — is the only folk method with real science behind it, and it’s the same evidence our AI uses on early profile views. Ramzi theory claims placenta side at 6–8 weeks predicts gender; no peer-reviewed study has ever confirmed it. Skull theory (round skull = girl, blocky = boy) sounds anatomical but doesn’t hold up either — skull shape varies far more by position and genetics than by sex.
The practical difference: theories ask you to interpret the scan yourself, usually from a forum thread. The AI applies the evidence-based part (nub angle, visible anatomy) in seconds, tells you its confidence, and refuses to guess from the superstition-based part. Same scan, less wishful thinking.

Do you store my ultrasound photo?
No. The photo is sent to the AI, analyzed in memory and discarded when the response is returned. It is never written to storage, never used for anything else, and we couldn’t show it back to you if we wanted to.
